Training Notes

  • Okay...I'm changing this page! I will now use it as a place to make notes from training sessions that will be good to remember, like not using a hard plastic water bottle in my bike cage like I did today...it rattled so much it almost drove me crazy! I'll keep my training log archive for future reference!

    • I'm back...not sure how regularly I am going to update this, but I'll try! 14 mile run today, longest since my marathon last June! I felt pretty good until about the 6 mile mark, but as usual I took it out way to fast. Ran miles 7-14 with friends, so they were manageable. I am pacing a couple half marathons in the next few weeks, so I'm happy I got the distance in at a reasonable pace.

  • Saturday, May 9, 2015
    • Had a really great 12-mile run today. Did an out and back from home along Lexington, made it to Circle Pines (passing by a very busy McDonalds along the way) and back holding just over 10-minute miles. I'm sure part of the reason it felt so good was that I skipped or shortened all other runs this week, but I'll take it.
  • Friday, May 8, 2015
    • Got a lazy swim in today. I did 2000 yards, but didn't push much. My left shoulder has really been bothering me lately...not really sure what it's all about, I think I may just be sleeping on it strangely. Anyway, I did four sets of my old-standby...200 swim, 100 kick, 200 pull.
  • Thursday, May 7, 2015
    • Busy work day strikes again! Was supposed to do 5 today, but only managed 2...and I didn't get out until 8:30pm! On the upside, my new shoes arrived today so I got to take them out for a short spin.
  • Wednesday, May 6, 2015
    • Was supposed to run 8 today...but work got the better of me. No run, no nothing!
  • Tuesday, May 5, 2015
    • 3.5 miles out at Rice Creek Park with Karen from MRTT. Nice easy pace, trying to get the run in before the rain hit!
  • Monday, May 4, 2015
    • Rest day!
  • Sunday, May 3, 2015
    • 16 miles today. I mapped out a long loop route thinking that I'd do that then a smaller double loop today. I strategically planned it so I would pass by a park or a gas station about every 4-5 miles, so I could take a potty break or fill up my water bottle. The weather was perfect, I had short sleeves and capris and felt just fine. The first 10 miles were really strong, I took a potty/fuel break then and felt good for a couple more, but miles 12-16 were a bit of a struggle. I took several short walking breaks, and maybe cried a little bit at mile 15. But I managed to finish strong and reached a new PDR!
  • Saturday, May 2, 2015
    • No long run today as the kids and I headed up to Avon to hang out with my Mom, her sisters and some of my cousins at their annual garage sale. It was a beautiful day, and so much fun reconnecting with family. Afterwards, the kids and I checked out the pool at the Andover YMCA. One of the swim team mom's told me it was really fun there, and she was right. We had a blast splashing around in the leisure pool and going down slides. Until some kid pooped in the pool and we had to get out :( Oh well, after we got dressed we discovered that the Y had a community garage sale going on, so we check it out and found a pair of roller blades for Kayley...calling it a win!
  • Friday, May 1, 2015
    • Well, I kind of blew off my training plan today too. I was supposed to swim, but I got busy with work, and we had Wisconsin in town for a dual meet, so by the time I even thought about getting my swim in, the meet was starting. I hate the feeling of deliberately skipping a workout...I need to read this every time I think about bailing and remember how bad it makes me feel!
  • Thursday, April 30, 2015
    • I was supposed to do 4 today, but I was still pretty bummed about my horrible run on Wednesday. So instead Kayley and I ran 2 miles together. We ran to the park, played for a bit and ran back. She was a trooper and ran the whole time for both miles. I forgot to time the first one, but we did the second on in 11:19. It was a nice respite from my bad running mood!
  • Wednesday, April 29, 2015
    • Today was glorious! The sun was shining, it was warm, but not too warm, I had a pretty open schedule, so my 8 miler should have been a breeze. Nope, it sucked. That's all I will say. Couldn't even make it three miles without walking today.
  • Tuesday, April 28, 2015
    • I have known for awhile that my neighbor Jen was a runner/triathlete, but for some reason, it took us until yesterday to go for a run together! We did a quick 4 miler up to the the lake and back. I was happy to see we held under 9:30 per mile, since I was actually able to hold a conversation the whole way!
  • Monday, April 27, 2015
    • Finally, REST DAY!
  • Sunday, April 26, 2015
    • Normally Sunday is rest day, but thanks to my "race-enabler" BRF Brandi, I was signed up to do an indoor Triathlon today. My legs were pretty tired, but I was ready to go. The swim felt great, and really got me loosened up. I took the bike pretty easy since I wanted to be able to at least stand upright during the run. Surprisingly, the run felt awesome! I ran faster than I have for a long time. After, I had a glorious brunch at the Mason Jar, a cute little restaurant run by the owners of Cupcake, with questionable service, but amazing food!
  • Saturday, April 25, 2015
    • Up early for a solo long run. 15 miles on the plan. I mapped out a 7.5 mile loop that I figured I'd do twice, thinking it would be nice to make a quick stop at home at the half way point to refill water and get some fuel (and a potty break). I felt awesome for the first half, really strong, and happy with my pace. I made it home to find Kayley up, but everyone else asleep. She greeted me with a big smile and asked if I would make her breakfast, I told her "sorry, sweetie" I'm only half way done". I poured her a bowl of cereal, hit the toilet, filled my water bottle, crammed down a half a PBJ and headed back out. I decided instead of doing the same loop again, I'd do the loop around Turtle Lake. I wasn't sure exactly how far it was, only that it was at least 7 miles. I felt great starting out, and fueled again at the 11 mile mark. Miles 12-13 were a struggle, so I walked a bit, ran a bit. When I hit mile 14 I had a bit of a surge, knowing I was just a mile from home, so I put my head down and plowed forward. I didn't break any land speed records, but finished with a 10:30 over all pace.
  • Friday, April 24, 2015
    • Evening swim at the Y again this week. Wanted to keep it short and sweet since I have a busy weekend planned. 500 yard warm up, 5 X 100 kick/pull/kick, 5 X 100 on 1:45, 50 cool down.
  • Thursday, April 23, 2015
    • Up and at 'em this morning for 4 miles from home at 6:00am. It was 28-degrees! I was freezing and sweating the whole time, and took an emergency potty break at mile 2. Not my finest hour, but was glad to have gotten it done before a full day of pre-schoolin' and workin',
  • Wednesday, April 22, 1015
    • 7 miles on West River Parkway today. A little different from last week, needed tights and a jacket today. I wore my hydration belt this time though and felt really strong. A potty break and fuel break at mile 3.5 and I negative split the way back!
  • Tuesday, April 21, 2015
    • Threeasy on the TM since it was snowing...SIDEWAYS! I also wanted to do a TM run to try out my new cadence with the metronome. I actually kind of like running on my forefoot, but I need to work on slowing my pace while speeding up my steps per minute!
  • Monday, April 20, 2015
    • Yoga. I still don't love it, but it is better in a class than on my own :)
  • Saturday, April 18, 2015
    • Met up with some women from the Maple Grove chapter of Moms Run This Town for 12 miles at Elm Creek Park Reserve. It was a perfect morning. Upper 40's and sunny. Started out with arm warmers on, but shed them after about 2 miles. We held about 10 minute miles and made easy conversation. The first 9 miles flew by. Then the group broke up since some of them were done after 9. I only had 10 on my training plan, but one of the other women wanted to do 12, so I tagged along for her final 3 miles. We ran a bit slower, but it felt good. Over all pace was faster than last weekend's race pace...my strength continues to build!
  • Friday, April 17, 2015
    • Swim day. I waited to do my laps until the evening so I could get in while Kayley had swim practice. It was a short one since the pool was crowded. Did  1700 yards, 600 Warm Up, 2 sets of 5 X 100, set on on 1:45, set two on 1:40, then 100 cool down.
  • Thursday, April 16, 2015
    • PT day. No run today, except what Catherine made me do on the TM at the clinic. She was analyzing my gait. We already determined I have a lazy ass, now I have droopy knees, a flippy right foot and my cadence is too slow. I will be working on my stride with a metronome the next couple weeks until I see her again!
  • Wednesday, April 15, 2015
    • 7 miles up and down West River Parkway today. It was gloriously sunny and warm, I really needed my hydration belt. Stopped for a potty break at 3.5. My knee felt a little tweeky, but still a pretty strong run.
  • Tuesday, April 14, 2015
    • 10 miles on the spin bike followed by some core work and stretching.
  • Monday, April 13, 2015
    • Three mile run with the local Moms Run This Town group. We hit the hilly trails at Bunker Hills Park. It was great fun to connect with some other mother runners!
  • Saturday, April 11, 2015
    • Goldy's Run 10-Mile! One of my favorite races. I started out with the 10:30 pace group and kept with them the whole time. Finished just ahead of them. The route was fairly hilly, but my legs felt great. I'll recap more in my training report.
  • Friday, April 10, 2015
    • Swim day. I got busy at work so I didn't make it into the pool during the day. When Igot home the kids wanted to go with me to the Y, so I knew this would be a short one. It was good, got in 1800 yards, just basically swimming non-stop and resting here and there.
  • Thursday, April 9, 2015
    • 5 miles around campus. It was beautiful out and I felt great. Ran faster than I have for awhile and my legs held up well!
  • Wednesday, April 8, 2015
    • Four miles on campus with the BRF. I had almost forgot how much more fun it is to run with a friend. Weather was okay, no sun, a little cool, but not unbearable. Felt strong!
  • Tuesday, April 7, 2015
    • No run today because I met with my PT to talk about my hamstring/knee/ankle pain. It turns out I have a lazy butt! Okay, actually, I have weak Gluteus Medius muscles on both sides, but more predominantly on my right side, so my other muscles have been overcompensating and are now causing me pain. I have lots of new exercises to incorporate into my daily routine to start the strengthening process. I see her again next week for a gait analysis. She was pretty happy with the changes I made to my training plan to help avoid injury, so yay for additional confirmation that I'm on the right track.
  • Monday, April 6, 2015
    • One more early morning Y workout before Grampa and Oma leave. Today I was supposed to do yoga, but churned out 10 miles on the stationary bike instead. Finished up with some core work and a little yoga-like stretching.
  • Saturday, April 4, 2015
    • Up early again today (I had to be ready for our days activities by 8:45 sharp). I had 10 on the plan, but knew that timing-wise that wasn't going to work out, so I planned for 8. I felt so good I did 9 :) Starting when the is still out and finishing in full sun is a bit of a wardrobe conundrum, but I managed!
  • Friday, April 3, 2015
    • With a full day of activities planned I got up at 6 and headed to the Y for swim day. The pool was packed! I finally got in an outside lane and managed to get 2000 yards in. I did a 500 warm up, 5 X 100 on 1:45, 200 kick, 5 X 100 on 1:35 (ouch), 200 pull, 100 cool down.
  • Thursday, April 2, 2015
    • Hectic day at work, leading into a hectic evening at home (Grampa and Oma are here to vist for the next four days!) Squeezed in three on the TM...I don't remember anything about this run other than I kept my pace firmly set at 6.0 mph and was happy to get it done with.
  • Wednesday, April 1, 2015
    • Four super-windy miles trying a new route through downtown. My BRF and I had coffee this morning and she told me to "get lost" on my runs. So, while this wasn't a huge navigational departure for me, it was fun to see some new scenery. My legs felt pretty good, but the wind was seriously brutal! There was a point where I was stopped at a stoplight and I had to actually brace myself so I didn't blow backwards!
  • Tuesday, March 31, 2015
    • Threesy around campus. Weather app said 59, so I ran in capris and a short sleeve tee...I was ROASTING! Hamstring and knee felt good the whole way!
  • Monday, March 30, 2015
    • Yoga today. I decided with my new training plan that Mondays are going to be yoga days. I really need to work on stretching and core, so yoga seems perfect. The only problem...I am really bad at it, and I get bored kind of easily. I'm going to stick with it a few more weeks and see how it goes.
  • Saturday, March 28, 2015
    • "Long Run" today...7 miles. First run of the week. Mile one felt pretty creaky, miles 2-5 felt awesome, miles 6 & 7 were a struggle. But my confidence held up and I am feeling pretty good about getting back to training next week.
  • Friday, March 27, 2015
    • Masters swim again. Only 1800 yards today since I got in late (6am practice is NOT my cup of tea!)
  • Thursday, March 26, 2015
    • Did two miles on the ellipitical to warm up and then some core work. Killed my abs, which is a good thing.
  • Wednesday, March 25, 2015
    • Tried a new class at the Y today called Ripped. It kind of sucked. Needless to say, I do not feel ripped right now.
  • Tuesday, March 24, 2015
    • Swam with the masters group this morning, 2500 yards! Yowza, that was good, painful, but good.
  • Monday, March 23, 2015
    • 16 miles on the spin bike watching my new favorite show, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix. Got in a little core work after.
  • Sunday, March 22, 2015
    • Rest Day!
  • Saturday, March 21, 2015
    • Long run day. 14 miles planned. It was colder than it has been and I was layer up fine. As usual, I took my first miles out way too fast and died at mile 12. I hobbled along for a mile run/walking, then run/crawled the last mile in. More about today in my recap.
  • Friday, March 20, 2015
    • Swim Day! I was looking forward to swim day since I had skipped it last week. An unscheduled meeting came up today, so I didn't get as much time in the pool as I would have liked, but I still managed 1800 yards. 500 warm up, 5 x 100 on 1:45, 200 kick, 5 x 100 on 1:30, 100 cool down.
  • Thursday, March 19, 2015
    • 6 miles on campus. Ran a slightly different route than normal and encountered a lot more hills. Felt pretty strong on them though!
  • Wednesday, March 18, 2015
    • TRX DAY! Psyche...it's spring break, no TRX this week, boo! Hopped on the spin bike and turned out 15 miles while watching the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix...almost made up for missing my class!
  • Tuesday, March 17, 2015
    • Was supposed to do 7 (negative split 3/3/1) had time for 5 (negative split 2/2/1). Felt really strong though, so no complaints.
  • Monday, March 16, 2015
    • Threesy (my new favorite running term, meaning "three easy") on the TM followed by push ups, planks, and lots more core work!
  • Sunday, March 15, 2015
    • Lovely rest day!
  • Saturday, March 14, 2015
    • 13 miles on the plan. It was GORGEOUS outside. Short sleeves, capris and my new Balega socks. Strava decided to stop talking to me after mile 4, so I was "running blind" when it came to knowing where my turn around point was. I ran a little past were I turned around on my 12 mile last week, and checked my phone. 6.9 miles...I shrugged a decided, well, guess I'm running 14 today. Felt great for 12, horrible for the last two, but pretty proud of my PDR nonetheless!
  • Friday, March 13, 2015
    • Was supposed to swim, didn't. No excuses, the day just got away from me. Letting it go.
  • Thursday, March 12, 2015
    • Nice and windy run today...but I was in short sleeves again, so no complaints. I did a 1 mile warm up at a 9:30 pace, a tempo mile at 8:40, 1 mile easy at 9:20, another tempo mile at 8:30, and a cool down mile at 9:30. 5 total and I felt really strong!
  • Wednesday, March 11, 2015
    • TRX today. I had a 1:30 meeting, so I had to cut class a little short. Got some really good leg work in (and of course burpees were the FIRST cardio set we did, so I didn't miss them!)
  • Tuesday, March 10, 2015
    • 6 miles, run from home...in SHORT SLEEVES! Officially, the temp was 66 degrees, unofficially, it was SUPER AWESOME! I felt really strong the hole time, holding a 9:28/mile pace. Yay spring!
  • Monday, March 9, 2015
    • Sick, sickity, SICK! Sleep, soup, repeat. The only thing running today is my nose :(
  • Sunday, March 8, 2015
    • Rest Day!!!!
  • Saturday, March 7, 2015
    • Long run day....42 degrees day! After last weeks near-disasterous long run, I was pretty excited to get going on this one, especially with the change in the weather. 12 miles along the Mississippi, it was sunny and gorgeous. I felt great for 10 miles, then I willed myself to finish the final two. But I did it :)
  • Friday, March 6, 2015
    • Swim Day! I'm trying to sound excited, but frankly, I just phoned this one in. We have a huge meet going on and it was nearly impossible to get any time away to get this workout in. But I did 1500 yards, called it good.
  • Thursday, March 5, 2015
    • Today was a tough decision...6 miles, inside or out? I opted for the treadmill since I was feeling lazy and didn't want to get all bundled up. I'm glad I did. It was a great run. Six miles, negative splits (2 miles at 6.0 mph, 2 miles at 6.2 mph, 2 miles at 6.4 mph). I felt really strong and got to watch TV on the new treadmill at the Y. The miles actually flew by!
  • Wednesday, March 4, 2015
    • Back at TRX...more burpees, but I didn't care, I was just so glad to get my strength training in!
  • Tuesday, March 3, 2015
    • I couldn't stall anymore, I needed to run today. A pretty decent snow storm kept me inside. I trudged out 5 miles on the treadmill, even managing some interval work in the middle of it. A bit of redemption after my crappy run on Saturday!
  • Monday, March 2, 2015
    • Well, I had and easy 3 miles on my training plan, but my body said "rest one more day", so I did. I went to bed feeling pretty guilty about it though, so I hope it pays off with a good run tomorrow!
  • Sunday, March 1, 2015
    • TGIRD (Thank Goodness it's Rest Day!) and thank goodness it's March. The weather has got to start getting better, right?
  • Saturday, February 28, 2015
    • All I will say about this run here is that it was 10 miles of suck. I'll document more in my weekly recap.
  • Friday, February 27, 2015
    • Another Friday swim day, another Friday of not wanting to swim. Man, it's been impossible to get myself motivated for swimming. I really don't know why either. I like swimming, I always feel great once I'm in the water, but man, getting myself poolside is like torture! But, I did get there, my workout was nothing to write home about, but I managed 1800 yards when all was said and done.
  • Thursday, February 26, 2015
    • Had a 6 mile interval run planned for today, but a busy morning and sub-zero windchills meant that I wasn't getting it done during my work hours. So, I headed to the indoor dome track at 7:30. I really don't like exercising at night, so I started with a bad attitude. When I got there it was FREEZING inside, so that didn't help. There were a ton of people on the track, but I gave it a go. After about 3 miles I was kind of over it, but I connected with a couple women from the local Mom's Run This Town group, so I eeked out a couple more miles with them, but that was all I had in me. I really wanted to go home and go to bed!
  • Wednesday, February 25, 2015
    • Had to miss TRX today because of a lunch meeting. So I tried a later class called TNT Express (Tone 'N Tighten). It was taught by the same trainer who does TRX, so I figured it would be good. While I didn't like it as much as TRX, it was a pretty solid workout. Hit all the major muscle groups and NO BURPEES!
  • Tuesday, February 24, 2015
    • After consuming one too many donuts this morning (a co-workers birthday treats) I didn't have high hopes for my 5-miler. But, the windchill was in double digits (19) and the sun was shining. I decided to do an out an back rather than my normal 5-mile loop on campus. That might not have been the right call as the tail wind I had going out turned into a brutal head wind coming back. I powered through and manged to keep the pace I was going for, sub 9:30 for each mile.

    • Cold! and Quick! three miles on campus today. I was all ready to head to the TM when my BRF posted a picture of her outdoor run, complete with icicles on her eyelashes. I knew then I had to go outside. It was chilly, but I ran fast. Kept an 8:40 pace!

    • Rest Day!!! And my first Sunday off work in a while :)
  • Saturday, February 21, 2015
    • I woke up this morning with the attitude that nothing was going to keep me from doing my long run outside today. The windchill was finally above zero, so I layered up (two pairs of tights; one capri, one long, knee-high compression socks, long sleeve shirt and my Puma jacket on top. Heavy had and two layers of mittens) and headed out. I was warm enough after I got going, except for my face. Also tried Gu Chomps today. More on my clothes and fuel in my Week Three Recap.

    • Swim day. I'm feeling stronger in the pool each week. Today my main set was 3 (3 X 100). First three were on 2:00, hold 1:45, second three were on 1:45 hold 1:30, third three were on 1:30 hold 1:20. Much to my surprise, I held them all right on interval. I even felt too slow holding the 1:45's. I'll have to up my game next week!

    • Well, lunch out with my BRF sabotaged my run today. I had 5 miles on tap, but only made it one on the TM before my Chow Fun almost became Up Chuck. Decided a 10 mile spin on the bike would make up for it. I worked pretty hard, doing hill repeats every mile and a half. My legs were spent after TRX anyway, so this was a good change of pace. Thankful for swim day tomorrow!

    • Cross Training with TRX today. This class was all about legs today, squats, lunges, jump squats, jack lunges, weighted squats, travelling lunges, you get the picture. Oh, and burpees, always with the burpees. I will feel this tomorrow!
  • Tuesday, February 17, 2015
    • 3 miles on the TM, 2 on the track. This was almost barely 3 miles on the TM. Just wasn't feeling it mentally today. But some powerful internet persuasion kept me going. Glad tomorrow is cross training though!
  • Monday, February 16, 2015
    • Did a short 2 miles today to warm up and then some core work. Just wasn't feeling it today. Winter is starting to get the better of me :(
  • Sunday, February, 15, 2015
    • Well, this morning it was decision time. I had 10-miles on my training plan and the windchill was still well below zero. Many friends had advised me to skip the run and do something else (or do a shorter, faster run on the treadmill). But, I really wanted to try to stick with this long run. So, I left the house at 7:30 and got to the Maple Grove Sports dome at 8:00. An hour and half later, I had run my 10 miles. It didn't exactly feel good, but it wasn't the worst thing ever either. I need to work on my mid-run fueling plan though, my energy was gone after 6 miles!
  • Saturday, February 14, 2013
    • Even though this was supposed to be "long run" day, I decided to make it rest day since we had a bunch of activities planned. Also, with the windchill hitting -25 today, there was no way I was going to attempt a long run outside!
  • Friday, February 13, 2015
    • Swim day! Of course it's swim day, it's above zero today, seems swim day is always the warmest day of the week! Did 1800 yards today. 500 warm up, 8 X 100 on 1:45, holding each under 1:30, 4 X 100 alternate kick/pull, 100 cool down.
  • Thursday, February 12, 2015
    • Training plan called for 6 miles negative split today (2/2/2). The windchill was -11, so I decided to do it on the treadmill. I had a pretty bad attitude about it when I started, but thankfully my BRF was there for the first three miles, so those few by. Miles 4-5 dragged on forever and I almost bailed on mile 6, but I told myself "you've come this far, you're gonna finish". I did, and I finished pretty strong. First 2 miles at a 10 min/mile pace, middle two at 9:33 min/mile pace, last two at 9:22 min/mile pace.

    • TRX baby! Small class today so we spent most of the time on the straps, which was killer! Of course our trainer managed to slip some burpees in there, I have become resigned to the fact that these are going to be a regular part of my Wednesday workout!
  • Tuesday, February 10, 2015
    • Tempo run on the TM because of the lovely freezing rain outside. 1 mile warm up, 2 miles tempo at an 8:53 pace, 1 mile cool down. Felt really strong!
  • Monday, February 9, 2015
    • Easy 3 miles on campus. It was so nice out today! Sun was shining, it was about 30-degrees and this run felt great!
  • Sunday, February 8, 2015
    • Rest Day (and work day :/)
  • Saturday, February 7, 2015
    • Long Run Day! Had a busy morning and afternoon, so I didn't get out until 5:00 for my 8-miler. I felt really strong though, and I think if I had a little more daylight, I would have had a pretty decent time too. I just had to slow way down the second half since it got dark so quickly I could barely see the road in front of me!
  • Friday, February 56, 2015
    • Swim day...had a hard time motivating myself to get in the water. My jury is still out on whether or not I'm happy I did :) 2000 yards: 500 WU, 3 sets of 3 X 100 Swim/Kick/Pull ascending, 4 X 100 free on 1:40 (ouch), 200 Cool Down.
  • Thursday, February 54, 2015
    • Another TM run :( I felt pretty good though. 1.5 mile warm up at 6 mph, then 1.5 miles at 6.5 mph, then a 1 mile cool down at 6 mph. Worked up a good sweat. My ankle is starting to bother me a little though. Might be time to see the PT.

    • TRX day! I love TRX, but am not found of our trainers recent penchant for burpees. She killed our arms and shoulders today though, which is just what I needed!
  • Tuesday February 3, 2015:
    • Easy 3. Well, that's what my training plan called for. Guessing they didn't realize it was going to be a blizzard out when they were writing it. Glad I made it back to my office, it was a little sketchy there for awhile! Kept a good pace though, 9:24...pretty happy overall.
  • Monday, February 2, 2015:
    • MARATHON TRAINING DAY ONE!!! Woo hoo! Okay, it wasn't that exciting. 3 miles plus 4 strides on the treadmill because I am wimpy and didn't want to go outside. But got to spend quality time sweating next to my BRF, so it's all good.
  • Sunday, February 1, 2015:
    • Rest day...and SUPER BOWL SUNDAY...go Seahawks!
    • Update: Burned a lot of calories crying at the end of the game...my 7-year old daughter could have called a better play than Pete Carroll! Oh well...I will drown my sorrows in marathon training, which starts TOMORROW, eek!
  • January Mileage Totals:
    • Swam 5 miles, Biked 13 miles, Ran 55 miles. Not too shabby!
  • Saturday, January 31, 2015
    • Ran 4 miles around campus before our event started. I felt really horrible on my first mile, but once I got into my groove, I felt great. Wished I had more time to do a couple more!
  • Friday, January 30, 2015
    • 1 mile swim. I really didn't want to do this today...I had to go early and I hate getting into the cold pool on a good day, but I REALLY hate it on a cold day. But glad to have gotten something done today.
  • Thursday, January 29, 2015
    • 3 miles on campus, nice and easy with Brandi...have I mentioned how much I love running with my BRF? It was COLD though, biting wind was not fun.
  • Wednesday, January 28, 2015
    • TRX! No burpees today!!! We did do more planks than I would have preferred, but it was all good!
  • Tuesday, January 27, 2015
    • 3 miles on campus with HILL REPEATS! Gah, it wasn't even a big hill, but man I felt those. I tried to run each one a little faster, did five total. Feeling pretty badass!
  • Monday, January 26, 2015
    • 3 miles on campus with my BRF! Was going to do yoga after, but work got in the way ;) I really need to make time for stretching!
  • Sunday, January 25, 2015
    • 1800 in the pool. Did a set of 4 x 200 negative split. It was hard, but I managed to do it!
  • Saturday, January 24, 2015
    • 6 miles outside! Sunny, warm, slippery, slow. Oh well, it was so good to get back out today!
  • Friday, January 23, 2015
    • Rest Day...doctor's orders :(
  • Thursday, January 22, 2015
    • Rest Day
  • Wednesday, January 21, 2015
    • TRX and MORE BURPEES! Gah, glad I have a rest day tomorrow!
  • Tuesday, January 20, 2015:
    • 3 miles on campus. Wasn't feeling it today. Strava was off on my pace, so that put a damper on things even more. Glad I got it in though, and glad tomorrow is TRX day!
  • Monday, January 19, 2015:
    • 4 miles from home, did my regular 5K route and tacked on another mile through the "fancy" part of my neighborhood. Felt pretty good, not layered up quite well enough though.
  • Sunday, January 18, 2015:
    • Rest Day!
  • Saturday, January 17, 2015:
    • 4 miles outside on campus. Ran a new but familiar route today. My legs felt heavy, but my pace was faster than it's been for awhile. My knees also felt better today than they have for few weeks...yay! Also, I only needed one layer!!! Too bad tomorrow is rest day, it's the last day we'll have in the 30's for some time again.
  • Friday, January 16, 2015
    • Swim day! 1800 yards in the pool. Did a longish warm up and then a longish kick/pull set, and then did some timed 200's trying to negative split. I actually felt really good. I think my legs needed the break!
  • Thursday, January 15, 2015
    • 5 miles outside on campus. 31-degrees. Felt horrible during first mile...but once I got into the swing of it I felt awesome. Contemplated running more, but really needed to get back to work. Rolled out my hamstrings for a bit after...must remember to do this more frequently!
  • Wednesday, January 14, 2015:
    • Unscheduled rest day due to ridiculously long work meetings :( It was 20 degrees out today too! Boo!
  • Tuesday, January 13, 2015:
    • TRX class...with the dreaded burpees! Lots of leg work today, I will be feeling this on my run tomorrow!
  • Monday, January 12, 2015:
    • 4 miles outside on campus. -9 Windchill, not too bad, was even a little too layered up. Did an out and back along River Road, I'm still to nervous to do the 5-mile loop without my BRF because I'm sure I'd get lost without her navigational skills! Wardrobe notes: Face mask & fleece are too warm. Double layer on bottom, compression socks, short sleeve tee, long sleeve tee, light jacket, hat and mittens for this temp.
  • Sunday, January 11, 2015:
    • Rest Day :)
